Some humans will jump into an icy pond to save their pets, no question, but some will go one step further and jump in to save a complete stranger of a dog.

Last year, a Russian cameraman caught sight of a man named Ivan jumping into the water to get something out of there after stopping to help a few men with a broken car. According to a translated version of the article, the man took off his clothes and quickly made his way to where the dog was caught as he broke apart the ice by hand.

The cameraman caught the whole thing, which is now making the rounds thanks to a mirror copy on YouTube.

Luckily, this story has a happy ending. The same article explains that although the dog initially ran off the moment he got out of the water, they all spotted him later on as they stopped to buy Ivan some vodka so he could warm up. After feeding the dog some sausage, Ivan took the dog home and named him Rex.

Here’s hoping their adventures since then are a lot warmer than their first meeting.
