The requirements sorta rival that of what it takes to be the Dillon High School football head coach: a born leader, strong public speaker, proactive in solving problems. But then there's the downsides that Eric Taylor wouldn't tolerate, like being celibate, and he would definitely wouldn't turn the other cheek against the whole sex abuse issue.
