This hog took a page out of Mike Tyson's playbook.

Asking a groundhog to discern if you should bundle up for six more weeks of winter or break out the cargo shorts in anticipation of spring is tricky business. For years mayors have learned that fact the hard way, sustaining countless bites and scratches all for a cheap photo and lousy weather report.

But perhaps no politician’s injury has been as painful or as funny as what Mayor Jonathan Freund had to endure on Monday. The Sun Prairie, Wis., mayor had Jimmy the Groundhog held up to his ear to receive this year’s forecast when the feisty rodent decided to deliver a lot more than the weather.

Along with his bite, Jimmy prognosticated an early spring. Despite the Tyson-like chomp, Freund contends that he holds no ill will against the marmot and told reporters that the bite eventually stopped hurting. “He is always welcome in Sun Prairie,” Freund said.

Let’s just hope this doesn’t play out like the movie Groundhog Day because that looks like an awfully painful bite to relive day after day.
