There’s nothing more uplifting than a bunch of notifications letting you know that a slew of randos from your hometown have liked your latest selfie or life announcement on Facebook. In the search for total social-media fulfillment, several pranksters pretended to get engaged—and then basked in the Internet’s love.

Los Angeles comedian Zach Broussard staged fake proposals with a team of actors and volunteers who then posted photos of the glorious moment on social media to see how friends and families would react. All they needed were some phony rose petals and a fake $12 wedding ring to pull off the perfect lie.

Sure enough, everyone got a flood of likes and comments, from high-school acquaintances relaying their congratulations to siblings calling bullshit.

One person even wrote “I felt my heart shatter when I saw this *crying emoji*.” Looks like someone was the one who got away.

We wonder what kind of social-media attention they’ll get for their sudden divorce announcements.
