Daily commuters across the Golden Gate Bridge have undoubtedly witnessed a spectacle or two on their routine trek from the hills of Marin into San Francisco. But the sight they got yesterday morning was unique even for the city by the bay: two deer crossing the length of the bridge, headed to realms unknown.

As filmed by videographer Steve King, who posted the clip to his Instagram yesterday, the pair of deer bounds along the free lane towards the Marin County side of the bridge, while charmed drivers slow to let them pass.

Where were the deer headed? Were they unknowingly separating themselves from their deer fellows in Golden Gate Park? How did they get back across? Where were they going without ever knowing the way?

Here’s hoping they made it safely to their deerstination.
