Dads: They’re so hot right now! And they seem to be everywhere you look.

How can you recognize one of these dads? Well, you can often spot them in the middle of doing something totally dad-worthy. For example:

1) Changing diapers

Babies can’t control their bodily functions, so they wear diapers. When the baby moves its bowels, it’s sometimes the dad’s job to change said diaper. OMG, changing diapers is such a “dad” thing to do!

2) Rocking baby to sleep

When babies have a hard time sleeping, which is often, they cry. And dads have been known to come and pick the baby up and bounce it gently, pat its back, and say little nonsense words to try and calm it down. Wow, be more of a “dad” why don’t you?!?!

3) Driving toddler to doctor to treat ear infection

Children have to go to the doctor a lot, and they can’t very well drive themselves, so it falls to the guardians, one of which is sometimes a vaguely dad-like person, to provide safe passage to this aforementioned doctor. Ideally it’s clear that children are for the most part totally helpless, and they need someone to take care of them. Providing this care is one the most “dad” things ever!

4) Ensuring that child doesn’t eat dirt

Yeah, that’s pretty self-explanatory. Kids like to put things in their mouths, and dads have to watch them so they don’t do that. Ughhhh, dadddd!

5) Making silly faces

Newborns and older children alike are temperamental creatures and enjoy having funny-looking faces made at them. End of story. So dad!

6) Taking kid to soccer practice

It’s important that the youth engage in social activities. So if a kid’s guardians assess the prospect of being on an intramural soccer team, weighing said socialization against a culture of competition and striving, and decide that their child should play soccer, then sometimes a person who protects and provides for and generally looks after the small child—a “dad,” if you will—takes this kid to soccer practice and picks the kid up afterward. What a dad thing to do.

7) Helping son or daughter with homework

When dads aren’t listening to Eagles’ records and barbecuing in the back yard wearing sandals and socks, they sometimes help their offspring do their homework. Sometimes.
