YouTube removes pornographic content hiding under Irish titles

Everyone knows that YouTube doesn’t allow users to post pornographic content. But some YouTubers came up with a clever, albeit temporary, solution for that problem: Posting pornographic videos on YouTube and giving them Irish titles

Irish journalist Maitíú Ó Coimín, who writes for the Irish-language website Tuairisc, uncovered the stash of films when his roommate searched “scannáin,” the Irish word for “film,” on YouTube.

He found “15 to 20 films of a questionable nature,” he told the Irish Independent. “These were real pornographic films.”

Although YouTube was previously unaware of the problem, once the films were brought to the site’s attention the team was quick to delete them, a spokesperson for YouTube told the Irish Independent. YouTube policy strictly prohibits users from uploading “sexually explicit content like pornography” to the platform.

While YouTube claims the offensive content has been scrubbed from the site, if you search for the term “scannáin” on YouTube, there are still several foreign movies listed as “sexy,” although they’re not quite pornographic. This includes a very NSFW movie that features a man having sex with what appears to be a dead woman.

Also referred to as Gaelic or Irish Gaelic, Irish is the official language of Ireland, and is the third most spoken language in the country after English and Polish.
