When someone saw a puppy covered in tar and unable to move on the side of the road in India, they didn’t ignore it—they made a call that saved the dog’s life.

Animal Aid Unlimited came to the rescue of the puppy, who had fallen into a tar pit and lay unmoving by the side of the road soaked black and covered in leaves. Volunteers spent three hours over two days massaging vegetable oil into the puppy’s fur to get him back on his feet. The transformation from the beginning of the video the end is pretty unbelievable.

From left-for-dead to happily playing fetch, the video is just one example of what Animal Aid Unlimited does in India to help save street animals. They’ve also saved a drowning puppy from a well, a calf from a garbage dump, and many more. If you can stomach it, their YouTube is a repository for animal rescue videos that will make you cheer and cry in equal measure.
