Pornhub comes into its own with premium streaming service

If you’ve ever dreamed of instantly streaming high-quality, ad-free porn, you’re in luck: Pornhub launched a premium service on Thursday that will let people to access full-length videos from places like Brazzers and Reality Kings in stunning 1080p. It’s like Netflix, but presumably with a significant amount more moaning and genitalia.

Like Spotify and Netflix before it, Pornhub is capitalizing on the streaming-service mania gripping impatient millennials. For $9.99 per month, you can subscribe to Pornhub Premium (warning: NSFW link), which the company describes as a “higher-class experience” for the site’s regular users.

Pornhub Premium’s goal is simple: allow porn-lovers to stream great porn—some of which is exclusive content—with no ads and in HD.

This isn’t Pornhub’s first high-tech rodeo. They were the masterminds behind a virtual-reality twerking sex toy, and they even released a wearable device called the WankBank that charges your phone while you masturbate. Pornhub Premium is just the latest in a series of moves to adapt porn to the changing technological landscape.

“For us, the benefit is establishing ourselves as the official ‘Netflix’ of porn,”  Pornhub VP Corey Price told TechCrunch. “We want to carve out our own niche in the streaming ecosystem. No other companies have really come out on the forefront of this vertical of streaming service. So yes, part of it is a branding power play, but this is also about showcasing our capacity for innovation and staying on the cutting edge of current tech trends – showing people we can adapt.”

If you’re too stingy to shell out the monthly fee, Pornhub will, of course, still be offering free porn. It just might be slower and less smooth than the paid content.

Free porn is great, but truly great porn apparently comes at a cost.
