One grandpa has been building a model train town for the past 15 years, and he finally got to see it from the train’s-eye view—as did the grateful Internet.

Redditor Im_Not_Batman attached a GoPro camera to a couple of his grandfather’s model trains and sent the camera on an amazing journey through the town. Even its creator had never seen his hard work from this angle.

According to YouTube, Im_Not_Batman is Ryan Crets, and he’s been answering questions about the train in the Reddit thread, where he explained that the trains looping around the extremely detailed little town are just 3 inches tall.

His grandfather’s reaction was positive and heart-warming, but Crets still wishes he could explore more.

“He’s a fairly soft-spoken man, so he doesn’t say much, but he definitely enjoyed seeing his creation from a first person view,” he wrote. “If only there was a way to get the camera to move around the streets of his towns…”

Crets’s YouTube channel also includes a video with his family in it to give a sense of the scale of the town, which includes bridges and tunnels, tiny houses, and forests. “Grandpa Bill” got plenty of attention from strangers on Reddit who loved how much work and time he put into his “enchanting” village.

“I’ll be sending him this thread so he can see how many random strangers loved his creation!” Crets wrote. The video has more than 87,000 views after being posted on Reddit yesterday, and it’s already been mashed up with the likes of the Thomas The Tank Engine theme song.

And Biggie Smalls

And the Chemical Brothers’ train-themed “Star Guitar”  music video.

Grandpa Bill’s train town is becoming a meme. And after 15 years of hard work, it’s well-deserved.
