Porn star Christy Mack's abuse allegations spur Twitter campaign for justice
Warning: The update below contains photos of injury and other information that may be a trigger for some readers.
Sad news about Christy Mack, the porn star who offered to give a blow job to the person who came up with the best Lego creation for her. She’s in the hospital, allegedly due to injuries sustained during an assault at her house last Friday. Her boyfriend, the MMA star War Machine, a.k.a. Jon Paul Koppenhaver, is considered a main suspect in the attack.
The situation has now enterned the realm of Twitter, where fans have taken sides, and Koppenhaver has told his side of the story while on the run from police.
According to TMZ, Mack landed in the hospital last Friday morning following a “3-person altercation” involving Koppenhaver at Mack’s home in Las Vegas. Mack’s representative later confirmed that she was one of the victims of the attack, though further details are currently unknown because Mack’s injuries make it difficult for her to speak.
Following the attack, Koppenhaver, who has been dating Mack for about a year, is still at large. He’s been arrested multiple times, and served a year in jail for a felony assault conviction in 2012.
The one upside to this story? The adult community has rallied in support of Mack on Twitter, defending her against abuse from War Machine’s fans, many of whom are spreading rumors that the attack was spurred by War Machine catching Mack in bed with another man—rumors fueled by tweets from Koppenhaver. Mack has also personally refuted the allegations that she was caught cheating.
@ChristyMack my prayers are with you baby! Sending my love and best wishes for a hasty recovery beautiful. Xoxx— RilynnRae (@YouknowRilynn) August 11, 2014
The adult toy company Fleshlight, which sells a Mack-branded line of toys (NSFW), is offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of Koppenhaver:
In response to the allegations of domestic abuse, which prompted the MMA tournament Bellator, Koppenhaver tweeted the following:
I can't believe this...I must be cursed.— War Machine (@WarMachine170) August 8, 2014
I'm not a bad guy, I went to surprise my gf, help her set up her show and to give her an engagement ring and ended up fighting for my life.— War Machine (@WarMachine170) August 11, 2014
The cops will never give me fair play, never believe me. Still deciding what to do but at the end of the day it's all just heart breaking.— War Machine (@WarMachine170) August 11, 2014
I only wish that man hadn't been there and that Christy & I would behappily engaged.I don't know y I'm so cursed. One day truth will come out— War Machine (@WarMachine170) August 11, 2014
Mack is reportedly releasing a statement from the hospital later Monday, so we’ll know more about the story as it develops. But assuming the allegations are true, for those of you who sympathize with Koppenhaver or think his alleged assault of Mack was justified in any way, this tweet pretty much sums it up:
Here is a simple fact: If you think War Machine beating on Christy Mack is justified in any way, you're a horrible person. No excuses.— Justin Stormland (@stormlandbrand) August 9, 2014
Update: Early Monday evening, Mack tweeted her explanation for what transpired Friday night between her and Koppenhaver. In addition to beating up her friend, Mack says, Koppenhaver repeatedly beat her and stabbed her with a knife in the hand, ear, and head. Mack says Koppenhaver forced her to shower and, she says, planned to rape her but was unable.
Mack writes that she sustained 18 broken bones in her face, a twice-broken nose, missing and cracked teeth, a "severely ruptured liver from a kick to my side," and an injured leg that prevents her from walking, among other injuries. Koppenhaver also "sawed off" much of Mack's hair, she says, with the same a "dull" kitchen knife he used to stab her.
Koppenhaver also cancelled all of her appointments from her phone for the next, she said, "to make sure no one would worry about my whereabouts."
"I believed I was going to die," Mack wrote. "He has beaten me many times before, but never this badly."
