There's nothing remotely funny about this 'prank.'

Autumn Allen is a 13-year-old American singer presently making a go of things in Cambodia.

Allen appeared on the country’s Penh Chet Ort television variety show to sing on a special Mothers’ Day episode. The hosts say that her mother is also on the show to be reunited with her, which makes Allen emotional. Allen reveals that seeing her mother would be a dream come true, as she hasn’t had any contact with her since she was six years old.

The big reveal happens, and it’s not Allen’s mother, but famous Thai cross-dressing comedian Chuop Rolin.

“What are you thinking, did you think it was real?” the hosts asked Allen.

“I don’t know,” she said.

People lashed out at the offending television network, MyTV, on social media.

Accused of having tastelessly taken advantage of a young girl’s feelings, the network wrote a letter of apology to the victim of the prank.

We’re all for game shows being silly. But it’s hard to see what the intended comedic value of this “prank” was.
