Stop me if you’ve heard this one: Girl gets artificially inseminated, girl has baby, girl tracks down anonymous sperm donor, boy and girl get married. Doesn’t sound familiar? Well, it’s the real story of one Australian woman.
Aminah Hart had a daughter, Leila, in 2012 after she was artificially inseminated by an anonymous sperm donor in Victoria, Australia. She made the decision to go through in vitro fertilization at 42 after losing two young sons to a genetic disorder known as x-linked myotubular myopathy. After Hart gave birth to the health baby girl, she decided to track down the man responsible for half of her daughter’s genes.

The donor turned out to be Scott Andersen, who had told the sperm bank that he’d be open to meeting a recipient of his sperm. So she reached out to him, and according to her, there was an immediate spark.
“It was much easier than I’d anticipated. I was nervous,” she told Metro. “I was walking in to meet a complete stranger and I had his genetic child in my arms.”
Not only did Hart get a daughter and husband out this situation, she also got a stepson and three stepdaughters from Andersen’s previous relationship. And now she’s publishing a book about her experience, called How I Met Your Father.
