This time the spotlight is on the many looks women sported over the last several decades in the Philippines.
While the Southeast Asian archipelago is known for being a victim of numerous colonizers in the past, in this two-minute montage, you get to see the aesthetic influence of the many cultures that called the Philippines home. The research done to support the video was compiled by Chris Santo Domingo Chan, a Ph.D. student studying anthropology at the University of Washington, who reportedly saw the project as a way to convey how a country’s definition of beauty is formed by a good balance of patriotism and a healthy acceptance of social differences.
By paying homage to the Philippines’ humble indigenous beginnings, the clip successfully captured the country’s resilient nature.
It also was able to portray the nation’s ability to adapt to changes as well as acknowledge the country’s apparent love for Western popular culture in later years.
