Our 2016 candidates aren't doing too hot.

Presumptive presidential nominees Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are unprecedentedly unpopular candidates. But the 2016 election just hit a new low.

A significant portion of the electorate would rather usher in the apocalypse than see either candidate become president.

Public Policy—otherwise known as the firm that conducted a polled on nascent candidate Deez Nutsreleased a new poll on Thursday that mostly compares the current presidential race to the 2012 contest. The poll found that Clinton's current four-point lead over Trump matches President Barack Obama's final margin of victory.

“What we’re finding both nationally and in the swing states is that Hillary Clinton’s lead over Donald Trump is pretty comparable to Barack Obama’s margins over Mitt Romney last time around,” Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling, said in a statement. “The country is too polarized along party lines for this to end up being a historical landslide, but Clinton is still a very clear favorite.”

While she may be beating Trump in recent polls, both candidates are pretty unpopular overall. Clinton's favorability rating is just 39 percent, and Trump's is even worse at 35 percent.

Enter the rise of the ‘Giant Meteor for President’ movement.

When voters were asking to choose between Clinton, Trump, or “Giant Meteor hitting the Earth,” a resounding 13 percent said they'd rather see the world end than vote for either nominee. To put this in perspective, the meteor has more support than any of the third-party candidates on the ballot. Ouch.

“The Meteor is particularly appealing to independent voters, functionally in a three way tie at 27 percent to 35 percent for Clinton and 31 percent for Trump,” the poll reads. “Maybe that's who the Libertarians should have nominated.”
