In his never-ending crusade to shield British women and children from the scourge of Internet porn (up to and including suggestive Australian toothpaste commercials, fertility folk art on Wikipedia, and Instagram photos of hot dogs that look like legs), Prime Minister David Cameron has drawn his fair share of criticism.
Yet no critique of Cameron’s porn-blocking initiative has been quite so withering as political blogger Guido Fawkes’ “Cameron’s Porn Snake,” a twist on the classic Nokia phone game Snake, featuring the prudish prime minister gobbling up all of Britain’s porn.
Originally posted by our British friends at Anorak, the game asks players to use the arrow keys to help the Prime Minister gobble up various pornographic images, such as a pair of surgically enhanced breasts or an image of a Justin Bieber blow-up sex doll (nicknamed Justin Beaver, of course). Against the backdrop of a British Parliament meeting, Cameron’s Porn Snake grows and multiplies as it consumes more porn, making it more difficult to control. The game ends when you hit a wall, or one of the “porn blocks” strategically placed on the board.
While Cameron’s Porn Snake is, like the classic game from which it takes its inspiration, fairly unsophisticated (it’s also, fair warning, really, really hard), the game’s creator, right-wing blogger Guido Fawkes (real name Paul Staines), is a power player in the U.K. political blogosphere. His website, order-order.com, has been ranked by the Guardian as among the most influential independent political blogs in the United Kingdom.
Staines has been highly critical of Cameron’s porn-blocking “opt-in” initiative, which requires Internet users to register with their Internet service providers for access to pornographic materials. Most recently, Staines threatened to sue anti-porn conservative MP Claire Perry after she accused him on Twitter of hacking into her website and flooding it with pornographic images.
