Super Bowl 51 kicked off with a nod to women everywhere, thanks to the Schuyler sisters of Broadway musical Hamilton.
Phillipa Soo, Renee Elise Goldsberry, and Jasmine Cephas Jones, active cast members of Hamilton, gave their own twist to “America the Beautiful” on Sunday by changing the lyrics “in brotherhood” to be “in brotherhood, and sisterhood.”

Viewers on Twitter voiced their approval of the amended lyrics. Many also applauded the choice to have a diverse lineup of women onstage for the performance.

The Schuyler sisters also took the stage in pantsuits, which has been seen as a response to reports that President Donald Trump wants female staffers to “dress like women.” With Vice President Mike Pence in the audience, the administration is sure to have gotten the message.
There has been debate historically about whether “America the Beautiful” should become the new national anthem, as it promotes peace, whereas “The Star-Spangled Banner” has been viewed as a war anthem. Looks like “America the Beautiful” could be a national anthem that feminists everywhere can get behind with the Schuyler sister’s lyrical edits.
