The 3 steps to creating a Zack Snyder movie

Zack Snyder loves CGI explosions and desaturated color almost as much as J.J. Abrams loves lens flare.

Is it fair to make fun of famous movie directors for reusing the same ideas over and over again? In a word: yes.

Zack Snyder made his name with comic book adaptations, from 300 to Watchmen to Man of Steel. His movies are consistently successful at the box office, but their artistic quality is a little more debatable. His first original movie, Sucker Punch, was panned by critics, while adaptations like Man of Steel and Watchmen tend to get mixed reactions from fans. But love him or hate him, you’ve got to admit that he has a very recognizable style.

This video highlights Snyder’s go-to tropes for blockbuster success, including his love of heavily CGI-ed action sequences and desaturated color. Also, his use of sexual assault to add tension to the story. Seriously, we didn’t realize there were quite so many attempted rape scenes in his movies.

Snyder’s next movie is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which we assume will will include plenty more CGI destruction, yelling, and desaturated lighting. But hey, if it works, it works.
