Nick Acosta’s “Live Long and Star Trek” is the Star Trek mashup video we’ve all been waiting for.

Combining scenes from the original series with scenes from the 21st century reboot movies, it envisions a crossover between the two versions of the original Enterprise crew.

This isn’t the first time a Star Trek fan has mashed up the two timelines (in fact, the new movie universe is kind of a mashup already), but Acosta didn’t just stop at clever editing. Using rotoscope, he transposed Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk into the vintage Enterprise, allowing the two Star Trek crews to meet up for a six-minute crossover adventure.

Star Trek being what it is, we’ve already seen something similar to this in the real canon. In the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode “Trials and Tribble-ations,” some of the DS9 crewmembers went back in time to the Kirk-era Enterprise, transposed into the episode “The Trouble With Tribbles.” For 1996, the mashup effect was impressively convincing.
