Now you can play PS4 games in the bathroom instead of Angry Birds.
Sony has announced its new flagship phone, the Sony Xperia Z3. It comes with a slew of new features including being able to play PS4 games on the go via Remote Play.
As of now Remote Play, which lets you stream games from you PS4 console over Wi-Fi to another device, has been limited to the PlayStation Vita, Sony’s handheld game system. It’s a really cool feature that lets you continue your game even if the television is otherwise occupied. The Wi-Fi doesn’t have to be limited to your house, either. As long as you have a strong, fast Wi-Fi connection, you can remotely access your PS4 and play your games wherever you go.
Since the Xperia Z3 is a touch-screen phone, it wouldn’t make much sense to play games that require physical buttons. Sony addressed that drawback by showing off an add-on mount that lets you clip your Xperia Z3 to a PS4 controller.
It doesn’t seem likely that PS4 Remote Play will move beyond Sony devices. The Xperia line has struggled to keep pace in sales with strong competition from Samsung and Apple. In the U.S., the line has been limited to T-Mobile’s network. Although the carrier has been making waves with its “Un-carrier” moves, its customer base is still a far cry from Verizon and AT&T.
