PETA went in an interesting new direction with its latest shock-tactics commercial, enlisting Hannibal actress Gillian Anderson to compare meat to human flesh. Just before Thanksgiving, it’s apparently time for a reminder that eating meat is tantamount to cannibalism.

For its creepy new YouTube spot, PETA copied the final scene of the Hannibal finale, where we saw Bedelia DuMaurier sitting alone at a luxurious dinner table. The main dish is Bedelia’s own leg, wrapped in ti leaves and displayed on a bed of coals and tropical flowers.

“Eating meat,” says Anderson, gazing into the camera. “It’s a matter of taste.”

Well, that’s certainly an original way to convert people to vegetarianism. “Meat is murder,” indeed.
