Computer-using goofballs of a certain age are about to flip out, as a classic computer game franchise is set to be adapted to a streaming series for Hulu.

Myst, first on store shelves in 1993, plunged players into a surreal alternate reality filled with rocketships, magic books, and mysterious puzzles to solve. Developed by brothers Rand and Robyn Miller of Cyan Software, the game was popular enough to spawn a series of sequels. It was unlike any other game of that time. Does this box design look familiar?

Now streaming video giant Hulu has snapped up rights to bring an adaptation of the exploratory game to Internet-connected screens everywhere. Writing the show will be Evan Daugherty, who previously adapted the Divergent book series for film, and while we’re curious at how one derives a plot from such a curious, open-ended game, the source material is rich enough to have already spawned a book series.

You can start getting ready for the show by downloading a revitalized version of Myst and play it on your iPad.
