The last year has been a rough one for female gamers, with movements like Gamergate encouraging a hostile environment for women in the community. That hasn’t stopped women from enjoyin what they love however. One look at the Kickstarter Chainmail Bikini will show that women gamers don’t plan to go anywhere anytime soon and are just as passionate about the pastime as anyone.

Chainmail Bikini is a comics anthology that will include original stories by and about women gamers. It has brought together 40 cartoonists who are passionate about everything from video games to live-action role play. According to the campaign description, the comics will “explore the real-life impact of entering a fantasy world, how games can connect us with each other and teach us about ourselves.”

In the Kickstarter video, the anthology’s editor and organizer of the project Hazel Newlevant goes on to explain that Chainmail Bikini “is about celebrating female perspectives on gaming” and that they believe “gaming should be open to all regardless of gender.”

The money raised through Kickstarter will support printing the anthology in a 200 page book and help pay the artists who have already completed their cartoons. The campaign has surpassed its original goal of $13,000 and raised more than $27,614 with 19 days left to go.
