Warhammer 40,000 fans and real-time strategy game lovers have a new reason to get excited.

Sega and Relic Entertainment on Tuesday released a trailer for Dawn of War III, the next entry in the popular RTS series. There’s no gameplay footage, but the announcement is still exciting because Relic Entertainment is one of the best RTS developers in the industry, and the Dawn of War games in particular have been fantastic.

Dawn of War takes place in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, the gothic sci-fi setting in which humanity has spread to millions of worlds across the galaxy and humans are dying by the billions every day because a wide array of aliens and demons are trying to wipe us out.

In other words, the world of Warhammer 40,000 is full of fun if you like desperate, heroic battles—and that’s what we can expect from Dawn of War III.

Based on the trailer, it looks like Space Marines, Orks, and the Eldar (read: space Elves) will be among the armies available to play upon release. The Dawn of War series also features the Chaos Marines, Tau, Imperial Guard, Sisters of Battle, Tyranids, and Dark Eldar factions, so we might hear about additional, starting armies for Dawn of War III in the future.

Warhammer 40,000 began as a tabletop miniatures game released by Games Workshop in 1987. It has since become a multimedia empire of books, comics, board games, and, of course, video games like Dawn of War. A great many geeks will be tittering with excitement as further news about Dawn of War III is released—though we have no idea when more news is coming, so settle in for a potentially long marketing haul.

Relic Entertainment is also the developer behind Company of Heroes, a popular and critically acclaimed World War II-themed RTS game series. Relic knows its stuff, which is yet another reason to be excited about Dawn of War III, even if you’re not a Warhammer 40,000 fan.
