Want to impress your fellow computer geeks? Forget adding new memory to your screaming gaming rig or buying a bigger external monitor for your laptop. These days, it’s all about the Star Wars computing accoutrements.
Using an open-source design program called OpenSCAD, Rich Olson built a 3D-printable speaker case that he’s calling “NOMOON.” The name stands for “NOMOON Orbital Music-making Opensource Openscad-generated Nihilator.” The geeky reference makes for a forced acronym, to be sure, but it’s hard to argue with the end result of Olson’s work.
Olson has provided detail specs for the speaker case on his blog, Nothing Labs. He also lists the speakers he recommends people use with his case design.
“This setup sounds really nice! The bass is full (especially for 2″ drivers) – and treble/midrange sound good,” Olson writes. “They work great as little desktop speakers. These are pretty capable drivers—and should work well in a bigger system with a subwoofer.”
