This is the longest competitive 'StarCraft 2' game in history
More than 31,000 viewers just watched for over three hours as two European StarCraft 2 players played the longest competitive game in living memory. It was truly ridiculous.
The game broke the record for the longest in StarCraft 2 history, and could be a contender for longest eSports game of all time. A typical StarCraft 2 game takes around 20 minutes.
For almost two and a half hours, the Protoss and Zerg armies barely interacted at all except for the occasional skirmish. However, sheer longevity meant that some units got amazing kills. One Stalker got 16 kills, 17 Zerg Infestors bit the dust, and one particularly legendary Colossus had 389 kills.
The clock read 3:04:54 as the French Zerg Firecake finally took the series over the Polish Protoss player Mana 2-0 to advance in the WCS European Challenger League.
The audience had long since lost its collective mind. Viewers had been spamming “༼ ᕤºل͟º ༽ᕤ END THIS” in the chat for an hour, more than long enough to be committed to an insane asylum.
Commentators Madals and PengWin only helped coax out the insanity. Hours into the match, they started freestyle rapping to stay awake. On the Polish stream, commentators started to draw flowers on screen. Huk, a Canadian professional gamer, imagined a horrific turn to an already scary night.
Imagine a internet disconnect. Load from replay would take like a hour itself just to load the game from where the disc happened.— Chris Loranger (@LorangerChris) October 22, 2013
When Firecake finally made a long overdue push and took the game, Madals made one final plea to viewers: “Oh god, please stay and watch a commercial. We’re not paid by the hour.”
I did it for your entertainment. I would stay on top of my cannons.— Grzegorz Komincz (@mouzMaNa) October 22, 2013

The casters then asked everyone to stick around for the rest of the games. The answer?
