With over 72 hours of footage uploaded every minute, it’s physically impossible to keep track of the content on YouTube. But in YouTube Guide, the Daily Dot will curate its five favorite finds for each workday.
1) Side Brains, "8 Buttons (Nintendo Controller)"
Here's a wake-up call to all the aspiring producers out there who think they need a top-line rig to make a track bang. Producer Yeuda Ben Atar hooked his Ableton Live setup into a Nintendo Controller to make this two-minute trip-hop track that we've been jamming in the office all morning.
2) K8, "My Blog Is Hot"
Hey haters! The blogger K8 has a message for you, and it comes with a nasty breakbeat: "If you liked it then you should have just reflagged it. If you're anonymous then you should have just logged in." Introducing Nicola Foti, the most supremely arrogant blogger yet—and that's no small feat.
3) Amy Miles, "Meow Meow Music, Ep. 2"
About as close as you'll get to the staged awkwardness of Zach Galifinakis's Between Two Ferns, Meow Meow Music is a show about a cat lady who talks about music. The second episode seems to have little to do with the latter. Instead, it centers around Parks & Recreation star Amy Poehler and her need for space from her overbearing cat, LeRoy. Strange, we know.
4) Chad Neidt, "Green Day Tribute—One Minute Mashup"
What's your favorite Green Day song? Here's guessing YouTube mash-up master Chad Neidt touches on it in this 1:34 clip that starts with "2000 Light Years Away" and through 20 of Billy Joe Armstrong's most timeless classics. It's almost enough to make you miss Dookie.
5) Smosh, “5,000,000 Subscribers!”
Smosh cracked the 5-million subscriber count this week, and he's got a lot of people to thank: 5 million to be exact. Comedic duo Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla do so by taking their fans on a made-up, behind the scenes tour of their weekly Smosh show, showing fake sets, green screens, and built-into-body microphones that make the production look a whole lot more complicated than it probably is. The naked truth: These folks are funny, and 5 million people like them. That's plenty reason to celebrate.
