Who is Bon Iver?
In February, when Arcade Fire unexpectedly won Grammy’s Album of the Year award for The Suburbs, Twitter responded in a frenzied uproar of confusion, shock, and disbelief.
That stupefying combination spurred the Paul Tao's hilarious whoisarcadefire Tumblr, which curated the best of those outraged tweets.
Bon Iver’s four Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year, this week sparked a strikingly similar response on Twitter and a like-minded blog, Who Is Bon Iver.
For those completely foreign to the realm of Pitchfork and its Hipster Runoff, Bon Iver is Midwestern band led by Justin Vernon, who’s bringing the slow jam back to indie rock.
Honestly, the confusion should be over Bon Iver’s nomination for Best New Artist. The group’s debut, For Emma, Forever Ago, was one of the most critically acclaimed works of 2007. Vernon’s since toured with the collective Gayngs and collaborated with Kanye West for last year’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. But that’s hardly the point here.
The responses thus far have been at least mildly entertaining, and the blog should have about the same shelf life as Ryan Gosling sightings at Fun Fun Fun Fest last month.
But as the blog’s unknown creator points out, if Bon Iver wins big at the live event on Feb. 12, “the reactions (and therefore this blog) will get even better.”
