Buzzed: This weekend in Twitter accounts, GIFs, and YouTube videos
We’re taking a break from emptying our livers of Bud Light Lime to bring you the three things that buzzed online this past weekend.
If you only watched SportsCenter, then you would’ve thunk that the Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics game was the only game that happened. Nope! There was horse racing, college baseball, Euro 2012 soccer, game five of the NHL Stanley Cup finals, and about three-fourths of final matches at the French Open. The French like to take their time.
But we found the ultimate Twitter account to pull all this together in the special way only the Internet can: GIFs. It’s called @SBNationGIF, and it’s great. Created by the masterminds over at SB Nation, it’s kind of like SportsCenter, but without the anchors falling all over themselves trying to say something clever. Also, you don’t have to watch it for more than 40 minutes before you find something that isn’t NBA-related.
So, here’s a GIF of the Los Angeles Kings goaltender blocking a puck with his head.
The Tonys titillated
I don’t know really anything about the Tony Awards, except that the show probably gets its best ratings in Manhattan. But I do know that we all love Neil Patrick Harris. Watch his charming opening number ribbing the ridiculous semantics of Broadway plays.
On a related note, if you search for the Tonys tag on Tumblr, you will be made well-aware that Spiderman aka Andrew Garfield used his connections to score a decent seat. I feel like we need a 800-word think piece on why Garfield is the new Gosling in the Tumblrsphere. I’ll even take a 32 Reasons Why Garfield is the New Gosling listicle from BuzzFeed to validate my accurate point.
The Fancy gets “Zuckd”
Since it’s hard for Mark Zuckerberg to look fancy, he joined a Pinterest-like website to at least be semi-associated with the word. The investigative unit at Fast Company found his profile, under the name Zuckd, and wrote 220 words trying to figure out what the hell is doing on the site. Unfortunately, no part of their explanation made clear why the Facebook CEO “Fancy’d” a library shelving system that looks like it could be available at Bed Bath & Beyond.
