For most people, having coffee with a celebrity crush is a wish most people don’t act upon out of fear of embarrassment or rejection.

But for Lindsey Miller, 26, coffee with actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt is something she’s trying to make a reality. She doesn’t have much to lose.

Miller, who was diagnosed with pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer in October 2010, created a 38-second YouTube video asking Gordon-Levitt, the star of “50/50” and “500 Days of Summer,” out on a date.

“I recently saw ‘50/50.’ I think I identify with your character more than most people because I’m 26 and I have cancer. Even though I look healthy, dating has been a little difficult because I’m not sure how to explain what I’ve been going through,” Miller says in the video. “But, after a year of living with this, I’ve decided to get back on the dating scene and I’d like my first date to be with you.”

The YouTube video has collected more than 4,500 views in less than a day, and was the topic of a front-page Reddit post. That post collected more than 500 comments, mostly from redditors wishing Miller good luck.

“I know this girl. We went to school together. She is a great person and although I can’t speak for her, I believe she has good intentions,” wrote iamithink. “This is not some marketing ploy, but rather a girl putting herself out there and hoping a boy, whom she admires, will have coffee with her. Who doesn’t have a celebrity crush?”

If Gordon-Levitt has responded, Miller hasn’t revealed it on her blog, I Am a Liver. But give him some time: He was out late last night checking out the Occupy Wall Street protests, according to his Twitter and Tumblr accounts.

The Daily Dot has reached out to Miller for an interview and is waiting to hear back.

Asking celebrities out on dates on YouTube has been popular recently after Marine Sergeant Scott Moore and Corporal Kelsey De Santis successfully asked actress Mila Kunis and singer Justin Timberlake, respectively, to Marine Corps Ball events via video. Timberlake reported for duty yesterday, and Kunis will go out with Moore Friday.

“I knew I would have an evening that I wouldn’t forget… Something I could tell my friends about. What I didn’t know was how moved I would be by the whole experience,” Timberlake wrote on his blog after the ball. “I was truly moved.”
