January 2 is Deadmau5 Day

When Deadmau5, the stage name of electronic artist Joel Zimmerman, takes up residence at the Wynn Las Vegas on Jan. 2, he’ll be doing a lot more than doing a fast turnaround from working New Year’s Eve. He’ll be performing on the official Deadmau5 Day.

Any attention-grubbing politician can pick a day on the calendar and declare it special, of course. But the reaction from Deadmau5’s fans was off the charts.

“I, Carolyn G. Goodman, mayor of the City of Las Vegas, do hereby proclaim Jan. 2, 2012, as Deadmau5 Day in the city of Las Vegas and ask all citizens to acknowledge that Deadmau5 has taken electronic music to the next level,” wrote Goodman in a proclamation Zimmerman posted on Facebook and Twitter.

In less than an hour Wednesday night, Zimmerman’s posts collected more than 32,000 Facebook likes and more than 320 retweets, according to Favstar.

“This is the most amazing thing I have ever seen!” commented Leighton Tuttle on Facebook.

The Daily Dot has reached out to Zimmerman and Goodman for comment and is waiting to hear back.

Zimmeman is know for YouTube hits like “Ghosts N Stuff,” “Strobe,” and “I Remember,” which have collected more than 33 million views combined.

Goodman, the second female mayor in Las Vegas history, assumed office on July 6 and has made arts development a cornerstone of her tenure.
