Guitarist Jason Mraz is looking for your help on his upcoming music video.
Starting Monday, Mraz is collecting tweets to be featured in an upcoming music video for his new song, “The Woman I Love.” He is asking fans to tweet at @Jason_Mraz to explain what the “Woman I Love” means to them, because the man needs answers.
If you have a good explanation, use the hashtag #MrazingTheVideo when tweeting at Mraz. You have until Aug. 6 to think of something worthy.
“Myself and the director will go through the ideas and we’re going to put those in the video,” Mraz said in the video, fresh off of riding some chillwaves. The tweets will be credited to their rightful creators at the end of the music video.
So far, the #MrazingTheVideo hashtag has racked up 700 tweets. A lot of people are tweeting the news, but not many of them are sending ideas. We did find one, though: “Idea: how about an awkward, clumsy ordinary girl who attracts a handsome Mraz? That'll be a cute video!,” suggested @AprilAthena7.
Although the fan reaction to the contest has been lukewarm thus far, some fans feel more passionately about Mraz’s new haircut: “Lose the hair buddy you look like a d-bag!!,” wrote iluvAugustana. The video has 3,000 views since its posting Monday morning.
A rep from Mraz’s label told Mashable that this is “an idea that’s never been done before in terms of fan-sourcing on Twitter,” but it’s not Mraz’s first time getting his fans to do his creative work for him. In March, he collected fans’ Instagram photos as art for his positive power ballad “I Won’t Give Up.” That Instagram-centric video was released last week and has garnered fewer than 10,000 hits.
Perhaps using tweets in his new music video will be more successful.
