Following the Critics’ Choice Awards Sunday, 17-year-old film critic Jackson Murphy is receiving a wave of backlash for his tweet of a picture with Amy Schumer.

Although it isn’t the picture that’s garnering all the attention, but his attempted promiscuity joke that went along with it. The teen critic probably didn’t expect his words to elicit so much controversy, but after posting a more or less slut-shaming caption to accompany the photo with the actress, that’s exactly what he got.

“Spent the night with @amyschumer,” he wrote. “Certainly not the first guy to write that.” The tweet has since been deleted, after the actress herself called him out for it through her own Twitter account.

Murphy promptly apologized, deciding to leave the humor to Schumer herself.

Netizens have inevitably weighed in on the controversy, delivering a mixed bag of responses. Many have sent words of support and commend Schumer for calling Murphy out and stopping the sexism dead in its tracks. Others have lashed out against her, condemning her inability to “take a joke.”

Murphy’s experienced the same spectrum of replies, some berating him for his ill-advised caption, others sticking up for him with appreciation for his apology.
