Drone photography has been incredibly divisive. Some see it as a fun and interesting hobby, others as a huge invasion of privacy

But no one hates it as much as 23-year-old Andrea Mears.

On May 12, while enjoying a day at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Connecticut, Mears apparently noticed a young man using his drone on the (public) beach. After calling the cops and reporting that someone was taking pictures of people on the beach and reportedly asking if they could hurry and get there, she tried to take the man’s equipment.

“Is this your property?” he asks her in the video, which he was discreetly taking with his iPhone, Mears unaware.

“He’s taking pictures of people on the beach, with a, with a helicopter plane,” she says to the police.

“I already talked to him, just come!” Mears says, becoming increasingly frustrated.

As the man starts packing up his items, Mears approaches and then begins hitting, scratching, and kicking him.

“That’s what you get you little pervert!” she yells.

Luckily, the iPhone footage recorded the incident, which was helpful after Mears told police that she was the one who had been attacked. She ended up getting arrested for assault and breach of peace.

The man who was attacked also posted the video to YouTube, where there are other videos of him flying the drone over the same beach, without incident.

So next time you get mad at someone flying a drone, you should a) make sure you aren’t in a public space where anyone is allowed to take your picture using any device and b) don’t lie to the police about it, especially if c) they are recording your meltdown.
