The Fog of Memories and Dreams
As Saskia tries to sleep, nearly every night it seems
She falls into the fog between the real world and her dreams.
The images flash before her, as thoughts flutter through her mind
And she tries to picture her father, but it’s a memory she can never find.
Envisioning that old street, in front of the house they used to live
Hoping he’d return so she’d finally have a reason to forgive.
She remembers staring out the window, lost in the street light’s glow
Waiting for him to come home, but of course he’d never show.
Though he left when she was a baby, she had a vision in her head
He’d be carrying a nice briefcase, and tuck her sweetly into bed
The echo of those dreams, always reminding her how she’d feel
Bleed through her mind’s eye, soaked into scars that never heal.
The fog blows in again, obscuring her memories from her sight
But they’ll always just be waiting, to haunt her dreams the next night.
